  • Toby

Having experienced the benefits of Jo's Bowen treatments myself, I was interested to see how my puppy would react even though he had no particular problems.

Toby loved the treatments from the word go. He seems to relax and his eyes go 'dreamy'.

Now he is 3 he still enjoys the Bowen sessions when Jo comes to visit.

  • Cookie

My 7 year old Beagle cross called Cookie was one of Jo’s case studies for her canine Bowen therapy. Cookie was diagnosed by the vet as suffering from mild arthritis in her hips and after her first treatment had much greater energy and freedom of movement, which has carried on since.

A couple of months later, I took Cookie to the vet because she was limping. The vet diagnosed soft tissue damage to her shoulder, probably from twisting her body awkwardly. Jo came and did a gentle treatment on Cookie and within 48 hours her limp had completely disappeared. When I took her to the vet the week after for her follow-up the vet could find nothing wrong with her shoulder at all!

  • Josie

Josie is my beloved 11yr old boxer. She is an adored member of the family and we couldn’t imagine life without her.

In December of 2008, a lump began to grow on the back of her left foreleg. At first it caused no problems and she was still able to enjoy her walks and her life. However by the following March the lump had grown substantially, and was interfering with her mobility. A visit to a local vet confirmed our worse fears; this was a potentially life threatening tumour, which could spread, and if removed would grow again even before the stitches had healed. We had no choice because of her advanced age, but to take her home to die. On 1st June Josie couldn’t place any weight on her front leg. She couldn’t stand long enough to eat and was hand fed. She found lying extremely difficult and life looked bleak. Painkillers were given, and we were told that when the pain broke through them, her time had come.

A few weeks later, my poor dog could not function, the lump was huge - as big as a very large grapefruit - it would bleed and almost grew before our eyes. So one bright sunny morning, my world fell apart - the vet was called, and I was crushed with grief. The vet said the tumour had probably spread and her suffering should end.

However as soon as the needle was prepared, my dog got up, for the first time in days and hid behind the sofa. She was led round and held down, but struggled so much that we stopped the procedure and the vet left.

We had a second opinion then, as Josie obviously didn’t think it was time to go. The lump was removed in August - rehabilitation was difficult - most of the nerves in her front leg had been damaged during the operation. However she began to thrive - motoring on three legs, while the bandage was on. The came the day the bandages came off - NO re-growth of the tumour. Her pain was due to arthritis not cancer!

However, Josie’s mobility was still not good due to her age and joint problems. Having had Bowen therapy myself, I wondered if it would work with my dog. I rang Jo who was lovely and very helpful. We arranged for Jo to come to the house to treat Josie. We had a lovely afternoon - Josie really took to Jo and let her perform the therapy on her without a fuss.

Jo left and later on that day it was almost as if I had a different dog. She ran up and down stairs and began playing and being a typical naughty boxer. I was amazed, it could only be due to the Bowen therapy, there was no other explanation - it was instantaneous! I cannot thank Jo enough - she is a lovely person, and I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone who needs help with a much loved pet! (Josie is still alive, with no return of her tumour and has even been on holiday!)

    Thanks JO!
